!As both a teacher and parent I can appreciate how busy this time of year can be. Getting back into the routine of school can be challenging, especially with all of the other activities that are taking place outside of school hours (in our house it's hockey, football, cheer, and gymnastics).
I can relate to feeling like there aren't enough hours in the day, but I also know how important it is to talk about school with our kids and practice some of those core skills that support learning. Here are a few "habits" that don't take a lot of time, but open the lines of communication and learning with your kids: 1. Ask about one challenge your child encountered during the school day (they may not have one, and that's great news!) 2. Ask what the best part of their day in school was (other than recess or lunch--always very popular answers) 3. Read together at bedtime (or another convenient time). This can be you reading to your child or vice versa. Interacting with books on a daily basis is important no matter the age of your child! Try your best -- that's all we really can do as parents. Do a little bit each day and don't overwhelm yourself with trying to do everything. Kids need to have fun family time, too!
